An FSER provides the same 24/7, hospital-level emergency care available at a traditional hospital ER. They are equipped to treat serious or life-threatening conditions, including chest pain, signs of a stroke, difficulty breathing, severe injuries and heavy bleeding.
While FSERs provide emergency care for patients of all ages, many also incorporate child-friendly rooms designed to help children feel more at ease and provide comfort to families during unexpected emergencies.
Urgent care centers are typically well-suited for treating minor illnesses and injuries, such as a mild fever, sprain, or small cut. Most urgent care clinics have limited hours and are not open 24/7, so it’s a good idea to check availability before you go.
A simple guideline for choosing between an ER and an urgent care center: If it’s life-threatening, go to an ER. If it’s minor but can’t wait, head to an urgent care center.
