CA Primary Election Reminder 2026

The capitol building in Sacramento, California

Your vote matters! The California Primary Election is coming up on Tuesday, June 2, and ballots have been mailed to every voter in the state.

Key Information:

  • Voter Registration: You can complete “Same Day” Voter Registration in person at your county elections office or polling place through Election Day. Register or update your information by visiting the California Online Voter Registration portal. You can also use the My Voter Status tool to confirm your registration status.
  • What’s on my Ballot: The Primary Election includes races and measures for local, state and federal offices. Because ballots vary by location, view your sample ballot before heading to the polls on Election Day. You can also use the My Voter Status tool to confirm your county and election details.
  • Vote-by-Mail: Any registered voter may vote using a vote-by-mail ballot instead of going to the polls on Election Day. Completed ballots can be returned by mail, dropped off at an official ballot drop box, or returned at a polling place or vote center. All mail ballots must be returned by Election Day, June 2.
  • Voter ID: Most voters will not be required to show identification when voting in person. However, you may be required to show ID if you’re a first-time voter who registered by mail without providing identification.
  • Voting on Election Day: You can vote in person on Election Day, June 2, at your assigned polling place or vote center. Polling place locations can be found using the California polling place lookup tool.

Mark Your Calendar: California’s General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3. The standard voter registration deadline for that election is Monday, October 19, or voters may use “Same Day” Voter Registration.
